14/01/09 - New Album Finished
Another year, another Thirteen album! This one is titled A Limited Vocabulary, and is available here
as a free digital download.
In addition, the entire album can be streamed from the
VIRB site, with a smaller selection streamed from the
MySpace page.
A hardcover book of photography from derelict buildings around Ireland has been compiled as an accompaniment to the album.
This book can be viewed here
or bought from the
Blurb Bookstore.
It costs around €22 if you choose to pay with the currently weakened GB Pound, but there's also free PDF version included in the
album download package.

Four of my photographs have been accepted for an exhibition in Dublin in September.
It runs for from 11th -> 26th Sept, and takes place in The Bernard Shaw, Dublin.
The exhibition is loosely themed around using old-style russian film cameras.

The venue for the Thirteen gig on Thursday, 20th March has been changed to Murray's, 34/35 O'Connell St.
Still the same details : Doors @ 8.30pm, 7/6 euro in.

One of my Coney Island photographs has been featured in an
article on the Brooklyn Museum website.
Patrick Ansellem, Associate Curator of Photography at the Brooklyn Museum, wrote the piece, which focuses on
the photography of contemporary Coney Island.

Upcoming gig on the 20th March in the Boom Boom Room, Parnell St.
Most of the material from the 'Come Back' album will be played live, along with plenty of other surprises. With any luck, I'll be joined on
the night by Niamh Farrell and Dara Munnis, both of whom contributed to the album. As part of a double-bill with Thirteen, the excellent
Damien Walsh will also be playing.
Doors @ 8.30pm, 7/6 euro in.

Finished working on a book of Lomo LC-A photography, intended as a visual accompaniment to the Come Back album. The 190-page hardcover is available from the
Blurb Bookstore
for 36 Euro, or 30 Euro for a softcover copy.

17/06/07 - Finished at last!
After almost a year's worth of work (11 months, to be exact), I've just completed a new album titled Come Back. It is available here, either as a free digital download, or as a 15 euro CD album.
In addition, the entire album can be streamed on my
VIRB site. VIRB is a really great alternative to the advert nightmare that is MySpace, and has some very nice features worth checking out. If you really must (and I recommend that you don't!), you can also find some album tracks on the
MySpace page.
Also, some folks may be interested to know that the artwork for the album was shot in Oslo using an old Russian Lomo LC-A camera, and can be viewed here

24/06/07
Phantom FM (105.2) will be playing a track from the new album, 'Come Back', this Sunday between 10-11pm.

There's a new Photography section up, find it by
clicking here or use the 'Media' link below.
In other news, I've almost finished work on the album. There are 11 tracks mixed and mastered, with 2 more needing a little more work. Being the complete legend that he is, and a significant influence on the sound of the album, Low's Alan Sparhawk signed a preliminary copy of the album art! It can be seen
here
Of course, once the album is completely done, it will be available for download here on the site.

As I mentioned last year, I did some small bits of music a while ago for a Martin McDonagh play ('The Lonesome West'). Only getting around to posting them up now, sorry for the delay!
Download them here and here.
Credit to Edwina Casey, who, as usual, did a great job directing the play.

Just a quick post to say thanks to everyone who turned up for last night's show in The Village, I had an absolute blast! Extra thanks to Dara Munnis for organising and promoting the event.
Recording and photos to follow as soon as I get my hands on them.

I'll be playing another show in The Village on 17th December as part of a fundaiser. Although, generally, it will be an acoustic-themed night, I'll still be acting the maggot with the laptop setup! There's quite a lineup, with 10 acts in total, and I'm in the excellent position of going on second last. Happy days!
There are consession available here

I've been doing a little stop-motion movie of a deconstructing Sun Microsystems server over the past few days, have a look by clicking here.
It is for a competition Sun are running to promote new systems projects.
Sure, click a few times, the more hits I get, the more likely I am to win!

Gary Breen, Gary Breen, Gary-Gary-Gary Breen!!
What?

14/10/06
Yup, as promised, here's a pretty large update!
I've uploaded the full set recordings of my shows in Whelans and the Boom Boom Room, and you can access them in the 'Live' section below, or by clicking here. There are a few photos up too, cheers to Cathal for taking most of them.
Both shows have sketchy moments, both in the quality of recording and quality of performance, but for the most part they're ok. Give 'em a listen.
In other news, I've started recording a second Thirteen album, with roughly four tracks completed so far. I'll probably post a few preview tracks here over the next week or so. Productive times...!

There's a massive update on the way, I can feel it...!

Just a quick post about a play I've been doing some recordings for over the past few days. "The Lonesome West" by Martin McDonagh is showing for a few days down in the Dramsoc Theatre, and I've written a few bits of music that'll be used at some stage (3, it think).
The director is Edwina Casey (of ISDA fame!), and Andrew Nolan (also a past ISDA nominee) is one of the lead actors, so you know it'll be good. Give it a goosey if you're about on the 3rd August

A while back, I mentioned the fact that I was developing a series of VST audio processors for realtime audio processing. Now, I'm happy to say that not only have I finished a set of three plugins, but they also won 2nd prize in the Microsoft 2006 Software awards. Nice one!
The plugins were a Micro-Sampler, a Stereo-Enhancing Overdrive, and a Panic Button, and I'll be posting them for free download here as soon as I pay my hosting bills. They are very easy to integrate into a studio environment (like any VST plugin), so give them a whirl once I get around to uploading them.

Hey, just a quick update to thank everyone who came to the show in Whelans, I had a blast and I hope you did too.
I made recordings of both the Whelans and Boom Boom Room shows, but the quality is a little bit poor, so I'll have to see if they can be cleaned up before posting here. If any tracks turn out ok, I'll have them up in a few days.
Easy, Easy, Easy.....!

I'll be playing a show in Whelan's on Friday 21st April, supporting the excellent Humplifunker. The set will be a little bit more low-key and chilled out than the previous show in the Boom Boom Room, but I'm sure I'll still squeeze some beats in there somewhere!

After an awful lot of work and money, I've organised a night of live electronic music in Dublin on Friday 3rd of February. The night, called "Signal to Noise", will include Solen (John Flynn and Donal Keating), The Jerk (Phil Naessens) and Glitcher (Cormac Phelan).
The gig takes place in The Boom Boom Room, winner of Dubliner magazine's "Best Live Venue 2005", with doors opening at 8.30pm. It promises to be a really great night, with a broad range of electronic musical styles coming from each of the three acts.
Posters for the gig can be found below:

More music for free! Here's another live performance recording, done last night with the usual gear setup with a few modifications. You can download the track over at the Glitcher section, or you can direct download it here. This one is a very fast DnB track, and it kicks hard!
Cormac

25/10/05
Another live recording for you! Download it here. Where the previous two were performed with very much conventional instruments, this one is almost entirely done with electronic gadgets. Have a look at the Glitcher section for more details. THis one is basically a big, distorted electro-breakbeak mess, if that makes any sense at all!
Cormac

21/10/05
I've just uploaded a couple of live performances, you can download them from the 'Glitcher' section of the site. Or, you can direct download the first one here, and the second one here. Both were performed live in the studio in preparation for a gig that is hopefully coming up soon. I'll post any news about the show here as soon as I know any concrete details.

Finally, the site is back and working properly. Sorry for the guestbook downtime, but it should all be ok from now on.
Unfortunately, all the complications with my hosting company meant that I haven't been able to update the site since late June, so things have been a little quiet since then. Its fine now though...
In the meantime, while working in the US, I've been spending some time getting my live set in order. Over the next few days, I'll be uploading a few live studio performances of various tracks, so call back shortly and hopefully there'll be goodies waiting for you to download.
Its good to be back!

I've arrived in the States safe and sound, and lugged a stupid amount of gear to the Boston Radisson! I'm writing this little update in the hotel room before I collapse, it has been a truly haggard journey!
I don't think we've ever smelled or looked as bad in all our lives. Hope everyone enjoyed the going-away bash yesterday (or today, I've lost all track of time), I know I did.
I'll upload any tracks I work on over here for download,
Cormac

Check out the new Gameboy nonsense in the 'Glitcher' section, as requested by Rory. Alternatively, click here for the first track, and here for the second.

Good God, I won the award! Had to give a speech and everything!! Now all I have to do is find room on my brimming* mantlepiece.
*may not actually be brimming

18/03/05
Great news (for me)! I've been nominated for a national ISDA award for sound production in Samuel Beckett's "Krapp's Last Tape". The recordings were made a few months ago with Andrew Nolan and Edwina Casey, and they seem to have turned out much better than we expected. Congratulations also to Andrew, who has been nominated in the 'Best Actor' category.
Fingers crossed for the awards ceremony on Saturday....!!
